A Proud Friend

So I have seen so many post about being a proud mother or a proud father or a proud grandparent. Well I’m none of those things.  So I thought an appropriate name for this would be A Proud Friend. I think people forget about their friends when it comes to: what to post about. I don’t always think about an achievement of a friend as something to be proud of them for.  But now that I’m spending the time to think about it, I am proud of them. All of them for different things.

At the moment I am over-the-top proud of my best friend, Ava.  She recently started her own blog (Avasworldofava.com) and it is flourishing. She has been posting her FABULOUS drawings, some of which I can’t believe she did, but also her lovely writing. I am proud of her mostly for being runner up for the Poughkeepsie Journal’s Scary Story contest! She is an amazing writer and I am truly proud of her. I am proud of her in every way.

Now, I know I’m twelve, but I know the difference between being “proud” of some one and being “happy” for some one. I was happy for Ava when she discovered that she loved sports (I told her she would). I was happy for her when she started her first blog, and then again when she started her second. BUT I am proud of her for sticking with her third blog. I am proud of all the followers Ava has and every view she gets.  And I am over-the-moon proud that she came in second for the scary story contest (not to mention that I edited it for her!) I am truly proud of my best friend, 10 years in the running.

Ava has been very supportive of me. She is a faithful follower and always comments. She has been there for me when I really needed her. Ava is definitely one of, if not, my best friend. We have seen the best and the WORST of each other. We can fight like a cat and dog, then we can make up and be best friends again. We have a bit of a competitive friendship so this happens often but we’re getting better at letting each other win.  She is an amazing friend, and I can’t wait to see what else I can be proud of her for.

I am also proud/happy for my other friends:  Maddie who came in first in the contest and Ali and Alex who got Honorable Mentions. All of the awards my friends won were under the 6-8 grade division. Our class took up all  the spots for that division. Some of my other friends also made it on to the Poughkeepsie Journal’s site for their story’s covers.  I don’t know if any of you remember, but I posted my scary story (Though the Woods) a while back. I didn’t win anything but I still had fun writing it and I hope you enjoyed it.

Through the woods

One summer evening, Sasha was wondering what to do. Her mom suggested she go for a walk. She took Sonny, her dog, and they began to walk through the woods. Sonny lead the way deeper and deeper into the woods. Sasha didn’t mind, what else would she do? Though she had this eerie feeling something was watching her, she looked around and didn’t see anything, so she walked on.

The two friends kept walking, stopping occasionally to let Sonny have a sniff of this and that. As they did so, Sasha saw an owl, but didn’t give it a second thought. These woods were a big part of Sasha’s past. She and her father used to go on walks, until he passed away three years ago in these woods. He was stabbed, but no one knows who or what killed him.

Veering off the trail,  didn’t worry Sasha. She knew these woods like the back of her hand, but once again, she had the feeling of eyes following her every move. Soon the feeling went away so she continued onwards. Their surroundings were beginning to darken. Thinking they should go home she stopped, pulling on Sonny’s leash and saying, “Lets go back.”

Just as Sasha began to turn around, she got that feeling again and this time it sent a chill down her spine. She looked back, and looking into her eyes were two big owls eyes. She laughed thinking, “It’s just an owl why am I frightened?” As this thought passed through her mind, Sonny began to bark and back away from the owl. Looking at him she said, “Calm down. It’s just an owl, there’s nothing to worry abo…” she turned back around, to find the owl flying straight at her heart.
